We are thrilled to have been invited to take part in the following event....
Sunday 20 May, 11am to 4pm
1940s Smallholding Comes Back to Life
Banham's own 1940s smallholding is open to the public again on Sunday, 20 May.
Rushmere Cottage is a unique time capsule with everything as it was 60 years
ago. Come and see Land Girls hard at work – and see if their long-awaited
Fordson tractor has arrived – help the Home Guard get to grips with their rifle
drill, and see how life was lived in a 1940s cottage with rationing, salvage
and make-do-and-mend. The event is open from 11am
to 4pm, admission is £2.50 for adults
and £1 for children. Rushmere Cottage is on Banham Fen, half a mile from Banham
Zoo – look out for signs on the "Banham Bypass".
And what's even better is that we have also been invited to go along the day before and camp overnight to learn what Girl Guides did during the 1940s, and to be able to show the public during the open day. An excellent opportunity as well for girls wanting to do a BP Adventure or to help decide if they would like to go to the 10-day camp at Gressenhall in the summer. Click here for further details.
If you are looking for more information about the 1940s weekend at Banham click here. (The required consent form is here as well as the sleepover_kit_list, and map.)
This is open to members of 13 to 19 years, and would be particularly
suitable for girls wanting to do their BP Challenge Adventure. YOU MUST BOOK ONTO THE SLEEPOVER. Others wanting to visit for the Open Day on the 20th click here for a flyer.
