EVENTS - First Gressenhall Gathering |

Girlguiding Norfolk's bid for £25K from the Young Roots - Heritage Lottery Fund - got off to a flying start with an appearance from 'our' famous Norfolk Mawther, Nancy Briggs, seen here recreating the colour party when she carried the County Standard at a Rally at Keswick attended by the World Chief Guide many years ago.
Members who came for the day at Gressenhall were amused by Nancy's tales as a Guide; had their eyes opened by the possibilities of a Young Roots grant presented by Nigel Blanchford, East of England co-ordinator; were challenged in their questionning skills by Wendy Walker's demonstration and were fascinated by the details of what one's kit bag for camp would contain many years ago, as shared by Bridget Eade, County Archivist.
If you are aged between 13-19, then this project is for you! We held our first day at Gressenhall, and
enjoyed a talk from our County Archivist, and hearing about guiding in ‘the olden
days' from Nancy Briggs, a previous County
Commissioner. The afternoon was spent deciding on subjects
for the project, and the following topics were chosen: Hautbois House and the
Patteson sisters; camping over the years; the way in which badges and uniforms
have changed; Norfolk's royal guiding
connections; a heritage trail around Norfolk;
and a Second World War II camp.
