lottery.jpgWelcome to Girlguiding Norfolk's Heritage Project on-line.  Whether you are a member of Girlguiding or not, we hope you find the site of interest.

Aren't the Heritage posters produced for the Centenary by CHQ excellent!?  We think they are great and have a huge amount of information contained in them.

We have written quizzes - according to the age groups - so people really do have a good look at them, and find out some amazing information for themselves.

You can access the quizzes here.

If you do download our quizzes and use them, it would be wonderful if you wouldn't mind making a donation to our fundraising - see details below of what for -  to Girlguiding Norfolk, County Office, Eaton Vale, Church Lane, Eaton, Norwich NR4 6NN mentioning that it is in respect of quizzes and for the ARC.

But what is the ARC?  Well because we have such a marvellous collection of archives, uniforms and badge collection, one of the best in the country, we are building the ARC - Archive Resource Centre.   It is to be purpose built and will house our things in the best environment to keep them safe from bugs and beetles so they will be there to be shared with members of the Movement throughout our next century.

So we are about to launch a big fund-raising campaign and these quizzes will hopefully raise some money towards our project.

If you have heard about our 1940s camps and want to know more... follow the links below.

One of the girls has done us all proud, as well as herself. Look at her wonderful video diary, enjoy and get a feel of what it was like those fabulous ten days in August 2007.

Have you looked at the girls' own page on Bebo yet? http://www.bebo.com/1940swonders

Putting together the pieces!

frontpage.jpgIn the spring 0f 2006, an exciting proposal began to take shape in the form of a Girlguiding Norfolk heritage project. Very quickly, the idea developed, and the ‘Historical Jigsaw' was born; a project that enabled 13-19 years olds to slot together the pieces of Norfolk's guiding jigsaw. A bid was submitted to the Young Roots Heritage Lottery Fund for financial support and, near the end of NorJam 2006, the news came through that we had successfully been awarded a grant of £25,000. The money has been spent, but the project in terms of interest, enthusiasm and expertise for 1940s Guiding in particular is now a valuable resource in Norfolk and others are keen to learn from us.

A key part of the project which wasn't completed is collecting oral histories from people with memories of guiding. Interested? Have we whetted your appetite? If we have, then read on to find out how you could get involved! Find the Old People's Home challenge on the Oral History section!

This website will mean that the world will be able to contribute to our search for information and evidence from the past. Help us find out, who's who, who's where, when it was and what's what! It will become a growing source of evidence that we hope will interest many people, especially as we celebrate the Centenary of Girlguiding. In addition, navigate the website to find out the most up-to-date information about events being organised as part of the project... download the necessary forms and keep in touch.

In addition, we now have a growing archive resource and are fund-raising to build our own ARC - Archive Resource Centre.   If you would like to make a contribution to our funds please do get in touch.
